IPOB Shutdown of the South East

There is a major disconnect in Nigeria's geo political zones between its elected representatives and the aspirations of its people.

This vacuum was evident quite recently when the administration of Goodluck Jonathan conducted a parallel constitutional conference made up of nominated members from each of the zones even as it had elected representatives in its presidential layer system of government.

This disconnect has continuously produced virulent agitation by the military wings of the various tribes, and in the case of the Igbo, the rising profile of Nnamdi Kanu.

Many people might consign him as a trouble making trouble riser, but the force behind him is no joke as evidenced by the shutdown of economic activities including closure of schools and markets in the east.

Nnamdi Kanu created a storm by launching his Biafra Radio which drew record subscribers and ignited subdued Igbo nationalism.

He also created the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) group that has followership from the rank and file of Igbo people. So, strident and invocative where these two mediums that the government attempted several moves to shut them down and eventually arrested Nnamdi Kanu. He remains in detention today despite several court orders calling for his release.

Despite his detention the movement is unrelenting and there are several IPOB diplomatic missions all over the world where there are huge Igbo diaspora populations.

In the constitutional conference, there were several recommendations made that if implemented may have assuaged the feelings of ethnic militants but the present regime is not interested in implementing those recommendations.

One thing is clear the restive disco-ordinated movement resurrected by this new face in Igbo politics is no joke and is growing stronger in ideology, organization and legal advocacy across the globe in line with Brexit.

It is up to the Nigeria to take drastic action to address the core demands of tribal militants across the land before the fire the ignite tears the country apart
