Contract Award Discrimination, Neglect of the East Conspiracies theories and Mismanagement Diaries 2
Many people are using the recent army boot supply contract
by the army to merchants in Aba as an indication that Buhari does not hate
Igbos, What a joke, I wouldn't go as far to say he hates Igbo people, after all
he has had two Igbo running mates, but I would suggest that he is ambivalent or
indifferent about the neglect of the east judging by the discriminatory
policies being planned by his administration.
It is time for Nigerians to understand that leaders must take the strongest action against institutionalized discrimination, as America was forced to do through legislating affirmative action, because the Nigerian system is structurally fashioned to exclude the east, and it takes the mighty efforts of the leader Buhari is shaping up not be, to query and fire the ministers and advisors pushing forward development plans excluding the east, that is where PMB's indifference comes into play by not taking corrective action.
The issue is not applauding the administration for ordering a token 50,000 boots for soldiers from Aba, but to ask why have all past governments neglected to terminate foreign importation of booths in favor of domestic producers.
One has to wonder why the federal government has not totally banned importation of boots for its entire armed forces with immediate effect and handed this billion Naira contract to the Aba industry instead of a token contract of 50,000 shoes.
I intend by this post to steer up the hornets’ nest, but could it be because such a bountiful contract is most undeserving of being bestowed on Aba shoe makers just like poverty stricken Niger delta peasants called militants are not deserving of million Naira contracts to protect the pipelines cross crossing the creeks, one has to wonder.
For my message not to be lost in translation, it is time for this administration to stop the talk and show its commitment to made in Nigeria by taking direct action by:
1) contracting the entire supply of boots of the Nigerian
armed services to Aba merchants with strict delivery standards. It is not Igbo
people's fault that the great leather tannery industry in Kano has been allowed
to ferment without efforts to outfit them to produce shoes. I trust my brothers
to outperform beyond expectations to keep on receiving Nigerian government
contracts, they presently appear to have a comparative advantage over other
parts of Nigeria, so just give it to them and don't hold back.
2) I would propose that these merchants in Aba be also tasked with supplying the entire uniforms of the Nigerian armed services as well to make up for years of contract discrimination. However, for the sake of nation building I will suppress my instinctive Igbo greed by offering a token that instead the contract be handed to the great textile industries in kano and Kaduna to revive those dying industries that once produced the materials for the expansive agbadas all Nigerians dreamed of owning.
3) In this time of recession this administration must with immediate effect and despite its misgivings about giving such a handsome contract to Igbo people immediately ban the importation of government vehicles and contract Innoson to deliver all the cars it needs. It is not the Igbos fault that the government drove PMAN into the ground but the recession is dire and the contract should be handed to Innoson until pan in Kaduna can be restored.
I would be remiss if I do not disclose my suspicion that this contract to Aba to produce shoes did not materialize due to any nationalist objective but due to a scarcity of forex to fund extravagant fraud filled purchases from the west, I suspect that the contract will be revoked just in time to hand it to a rival manufacturer from the great city of Kano, who the machinery of the federal government would see as better deserving of such a contract.
Getting back off my tribalistic horse, these contracts should be given to Aba or Kano merchants and it is time for this administration to revitalize Nigeria by sourcing its needs internally and to do away with tribalism in allocating these contracts to the hated but industrious Igbo now finally being gifted with this contract. We thank you but please do more.
It makes common sense.
